Positive Driving Conversations

Celebrate Older Driver Safety Awareness Week 2018 with positive conversations about driving!

Conversations about driving do not and should not always be about ‘taking the keys away,’ but rather should be about choices for the future.

Here are some tips:

  • Start conversations about driving retirement early! We will all outlive our ability to drive, so what can we do now to plan for that? Who will you want to make the decision? Who will you want to tell you? How will you know when it is time to stop?
  • When someone needs to stop driving, how and when will they know? Use resources like a driving retirement contract to plan for this discussion or our Driver Safety Quiz to help give some objectivity to concerns about driving.
  • Start using alternative modes of transportation now! One of the biggest obstacles with driving retirement is not being able to get around. Prepare for this by finding and practicing other ways to get around now! start now and it will be easier and easier.
