When it comes to driving, fitness-to-drive, and even adaptive driving equipment, we OTs have a unique set of skills that can greatly help our patients. Whether you are an OT thinking about driving for the first time, or looking for answers for a specific patient, or thinking you might be ready to become a specialist, here are 3 easy steps to explore OT &  Driving Rehab.

  1. Take OT for Driving & Community Mobility. This is a FREE online course available to all! This course will give you an introduction to how you can use your OT skills to help address questions about driving. It gives the generalist OT ideas AND might even excite you to learn more and become a specialist! Enroll in this course today HERE. Did I also mention you can earn up to 1.5 continuing education credits?!?!?!
  2. Join Driving Rehab for the OT on Facebook.  This group is a haven for all OTs interested in driving. If you are an OT, OTA, or even OT student, this group is for you! Join us today, ask your questions, soak up the free resources, and engage in the chats.
  3. Start using your skills to screen for driving risk. As OTs we plan an important role in thinking about safety & risk. We assess for home safety, fall risk, emergency response … why not make driving risk part of your plan. To help you out check out the Generalist Resource to Integrate Driving. This free resource gives you EASY ways to think about driving risks and to know when to refer to an OT driving specialist.
