Drivers: 4 Safety Tips to Keep You Safe this Autumn
Autumn is here! As you head out to enjoy that fall foliage, here are 4 tips to keep you safe this season:
-
Give your vehicle a checkup

Time to give your car a little extra tender loving care. Clean your windows & head lights for improved visibility. Check your tire pressure (tires lose pressure as the temperature changes, and deflated tires may impact braking). Now is also a great time to check your tire tread and replace balding tires.
-
Prepare for the rain & wet roads
Be ready for more rain! Make sure you are prepared this fall by replacing your windshield wipers, consider rain repellent treatments for your windshield, and checking your tire pressure. Give yourself extra space on wet roads – roads may be more slippery with leaves and poor drainage. Do not drive thru standing water and watch for ice in the morning and evenings as our temperatures continue to drop.
-
Watch for glare & be prepared
In autumn, during morning and evening commutes, the sun can align with east to west roadways resulting in blinding glare. Be ready with sunglasses, visors, or even by adjusting the time of day for travel. Give yourself extra space for travel to accommodate for glare and visibility.
-
Watch for deer
It’s deer breeding season, which means deer will be more active. Deer are most active during sunrise and sunset, so be extra careful. Watch for warning signs, and keep extra alert around woods, fields, and deer crossings.
